Planning is fully underway for another unforgettable summer with Armour Up.  (If I had not worked in retail, the concept of thinking about summer in January would really stress me out.  However, I have mastered the art of ordering ‘resort wear’ while donning my north face & uggs.)

We pray you had a wonderful break with your family, and were able to celebrate Jesus’ birth in a meaningful way.  I have heard of families choosing a Bible verse, a theme, or even just a word to meditate on as they begin the new year.  I absolutely love that idea.  After our most recent road trip, however, ours would be ‘PLEASE STOP TOUCHING YOUR BROTHER’, which I don’t think is what they had in mind.

Help-Wanted-Sign

With our growing AU family, we are in need of a fresh new committee (approximately 10 people) for incoming 3rd graders (2016-2017 school year).  Please email us at info@armourupdallas.com if you have a recommendation or if you would like to join our team.   We envision you’ll be doing this after the first meeting.

Yes, it’s THAT fun.

The only requirement is that you share our passion for raising young men up to be Christ following leaders in their family, in their community and in our world.   We’d love to hear from you!!

  • AU will meet on Wednesday nights at PCBC June 1st – Aug 17th (with a few breaks)
  • Grades will include incoming 4th-9th grade boys (if we have enough volunteers to be on committee for incoming 3rd graders we will include that grade as well)
  • 9th graders will have the opportunity to officially volunteer for the first two hours of AU on Wednesday nights, so please look for more information when you register
  • Times will be the same as last year unless we add 3rd grade (4th/5th 5:15-6:15pm, 6th/7th 6:30-7:30pm, 8th/9th 7:45-8:45pm); If we have enough volunteers and add 3rd grade, then 3rd/4th will meet from 5:15-6:15pm,  5th/6th/7th will meet from 6:30-7:30, and 8th/9th grade will meet from 7:45-8:45pm).

It is an understatement to say that we are looking forward to another summer with our Armour Up family!  WE ARE TOTALLY PUMPED.

Happy-Business-People

In fact, we just did THIS.   And some (most) of us aren’t even Aggies.

Thank you in advance for your recommendations and interest in helping us continue the tradition for our kids.

Lastly, I read a fantastic article that gives tips for inoculating our kids from ‘affluenza’.  For those interested, click here to read the article.  For the cliff notes people, here are the tips:

  • Combine Love and Limits
  • Praise that which requires effort
  • Distinguish between ‘special’ and ‘unique’
  • Be FOR your child, but do not collude with your child
  • Distinguish between “acceptance” and “approval”
  • We parents must disapprove, so our kids know right from wrong
  • Have your kids develop empathy

We are already praying for your kids, and look forward to seeing them back this summer for the best Armour Up yet!
