To say many of us are confused during and about this election season is an understatement.  This is a time unlike any other in American history.  We are all in need of encouragement, wisdom, peace and unity.  And guess who just brought it all together for me…Mike Seaver from the hit 80’s comedy Growing Pains.

I’m not even kidding.  Actor Kirk Cameron hits a home run in his latest production called REVIVE US.  Cameron gathered well respected men and women (Dr. Ben Carson, Eric Metaxas, Francis Chan, Jennifer Rothschild, etc.) for what he calls a ‘National Family Meeting’ amidst this tumultuous climate that is the 2016 election season.  They bring wisdom & clarity as well as offer undeniable hope by sharing scripture and personal experience.

REVIVE US was played tonight in theaters all over the country.  And we just happened to go see it at Northpark AMC.  Normally my family rolls their eyes when I suggest we go see a ‘Christian’ movie.  And let’s be honest, Fireproof and War Room, although delivering solid messages, might not win any Oscars for Best Picture.  Most of these shows at one point or another have a cheese factor moment that rivals ballpark nachos.

But Mike Seaver!!  He got this one right.  There were virtually no growing pains here (minus the few times the camera panned to Kirk and he was not actually looking at the person he was interviewing).

But the heart, soul and purpose behind this show made every poor production aspect of this 90 minute event completely insignificant.  This movie captures the very essence of what it means to believe in our sovereign God no matter the circumstances.

The reason I’m speaking out about this is that there will be a secondary showing of REVIVE US next Monday, October 24th.  I urge each of you to take your entire family (grandparents too!!) to support the efforts of Christian artists making movies like this one.  I will warn you that tickets are more expensive than normal, but if you bring your own candy I consider that a wash.

I also warn you that the theater audience is asked to stand and sing worship songs, but somehow it wasn’t weird in that setting.  Except for the fact that I had to put my popcorn down in order to belt out ‘In Christ Alone‘.  That might have been a tad bit weird come to think of it.  But not as weird as if I brought my popcorn to church on Sunday.  Sorry in advance,  Pastor.

I share this movie with you also because I consider Armour Up a family.  And the stronger we are as a family, the more impactful we can be in our communities and in this world.

Tickets can be purchased here.  (Ignore the dramatic photograph of Cameron standing atop a rock with the waves crashing holding an American flag and…) PLEASE spread the word – especially to your church, youth group, etc.  The movie might be a bit long for young children, so please consider taking only those who are old enough to understand the election process, appreciate history and follow thought provoking conversation (my best guess is 11+ but you know your children better than I do!!).

God bless you and all and God bless America,

The AU TEAM

“This is the reason we do not give up.  Our human body is wearing out.  But our spirits are getting stronger every day.  The little troubles we suffer now for a short time are making us ready for the great things God is going to give us forever.  We do not look at the things that can be seen.  We look at the things that cannot be seen.  The things that can be seen will come to an end.  But the things that cannot be seen will last forever.”  2 Corinthians 4:16-18
